Rule 909: Statewide Adoption of Parenting Coordinator Role

2025 marked the statewide adoption of Parenting Coordinator Rule 909 in Illinois. Previously available only in select counties, this rule now allows judges across the state to appoint parenting coordinators to help resolve parenting disputes outside the courtroom.

Thanks to the work of the former Domestic Relations Division, this expansion is already reducing court involvement and making it easier for parents to manage conflict. It’s a step forward in minimizing stress for families and keeping children at the center of co-parenting decisions.

Exploring Alternatives to Refinancing in Divorce

Even with a slight decrease in rates over the past few months, interest levels remain high, leaving many divorcing couples unsure how (or if) they can divide the family home. While refinancing remains a costly option, we’re seeing an increase in mortgage assumptions in 2025. In these cases, one party may take over the full mortgage without refinancing. Though it's not guaranteed, it’s a path worth exploring for couples hoping to minimize disruption and keep housing transitions simple. If you're considering divorce, now is a good time to understand what your options may be before the new year.
